Why should you attend this program?
We are clearly witnessing a re-examination of the law library’s value proposition as its physical footprint shrinks in step with its evolution as a service.

The time has come to ask ourselves, “what are we doing today that won’t be justified down the road?” Indeed, the future has arrived... and it starts now!

Law firms have always depended on library and information services to support the resource needs of its lawyers. And as technology and business needs evolve in step with ever-increasing pressure on firm economics, we find ourselves at various points down a road of foundational restructuring.

We are no longer simply curetting collections, but rather governing access and providing useful context and analysis. And the manner in which we deliver services, share knowledge, and/or demonstrate our expertise will continue to evolve, as macro shifts continue to reshape the practice and business of law.

What type of multi-disciplinary skill sets will be required to maintain and manage digital collections, and train lawyers on how to use a digital library, while offering other services such as research support?

Is it a realistic expectation that we increase the efficiency and value of the law library while simultaneously reducing costs associated with managing and maintaining the resource?

Ark Group’s 9th annual Law Firm Library, Research & Information Services forum will be taking place in New York this February 24, 2015 at The SUNY Global Center—State University of New York. We hope you will join us once again as we collectively discuss and debate some of the most pressing developments facing today’s modern law library—including:

- The alignment of technology facilitating the transition from print to electronic resources
- How analytics are likely to transform the research function within law firms
- How the law firm Library can impact “the mechanics of law firm profitability” given changes to the current pricing paradigm
- The role Library and Information Services has to play in enhancing information security
- Redefining the value proposition of the Law Library--Propelling librarians forward in a world where they must adapt to new ways of thinking about the information over which they are stewards

We must have the agility to respond to the transformation already taking place around us, impacting people, process, and technology, reshaping our physical space, amending our budgets and forcing firm management to rethink staffing models and departmental alignment.

Will we ultimately be defined by the strategic relationships we have within the firm—as we increasingly find ourselves tasked with doing things that are considered “outside the box” or more strategic in nature? How can we make sure that as information
strategists and knowledge workers, we have the opportunity to leverage our unique skill set in step with a changing landscape?
